You may or may not have previous experience with mosaic making. This 2 day course is for those who have a special interest in the use of smalti, smalti roti, gold leaf smalti and or millefiori in their mosaics. People also come back on these courses.
Martin will give a talk on how smalti and millefiori is made and showing the use of smalti and millefiori in his own work, explaining how he feels these wonderful materials have helped him to develop and expand his own personal style. Also included in the slide show will be a glimpse into the smalti factory in Venice.
During the workshop you can work on wood or on mesh. Martin will show you how you can ‘build up’ a design by making various elements on mesh and then incorporating them into a bigger design.
If you wish you can stretch the budget by incorporating a small amount of smalti and millefiori into a vitreous glass or ceramic mosaic, or have a vitreous glass/ceramic background.
You are of course welcome to bring your own materials if you so wish.
