I met Alicia and her father Michael, whilst in Mexico working on the Barbados floor (see Private Commissions page.)
In 25 years I had never tackled a portrait before, believing it to be too difficult.
The fact that Alicia was only 13 years old, with such delicate facial features, made the prospect even more daunting. However I was pleased with the result and more to the point, so were Alicia and Michael! The Mexican smalti had a really good range of flesh tones, which made life much easier, I really don’t think that I could have done this commission with vitreous glass.
So... now that I know what I’m doing, is there anybody else that would like their portrait ‘painted’ in mosaic?!
