Smalti, Millefiori, Gold Mirror and Hand Made Ceramic Elements set in Metal Tray
                                     83 x 81.5 cm

This mosaic is inspired by a detail on the Pala D’Oro – the Gold altarpiece in St Mark’s Cathedral, Venice. Thirteenth Century.

It shows the translation of Saint Mark’s body. On the stylised sea, with wheel-like waves, runs a sailing ship shoved by the wind, and the sails wear the symbols of Christianity.

I have used hand made ceramic elements for the faces and hands and incorporated them into a mosaic made of smalti, millefiori and gold mirror.
