I think that the plumpness of the chicken above is emphasised by the tightness of the format of the actual mosaic. Those square yellow millefiori are a gift for this mosaic, looking as they do, so much like actual niblets of corn. I also like the intentness with which she is pecking away.
I used to keep chickens. The look of the startled hen below, disturbed on the opening of the hatch for the morning inspection of eggs, is, I’m sure, very familiar to all of you chicken fanciers! Her resemblance to a Colonel Sanders chicken drumstick, is, I assure you, purely coincidental!
