Martin Cheek Mosaic Masterclass at Flint House, Broadstairs

Schedule:
Martin’s teaching hours are from 10.00 – 4.30 each day. However you are welcome to arrive at 9 each morning to carry on with your mosaics untutored. You can also work from 4.30 until 6.00 untutored.
Lunch will be from 1.00 – 2.00 each day.
Day 1:
10.00 – 11.00 Martin will give a one hour lecture on mosaics paying particular attention to marble and natural stone.
11.00 – 12.00 martin will look at your designs in a group session and discuss how these designs can be translated into mosaics using natural stone.
A practical demonstration will follow on the use of the hammer and hardie.n.b: You don’t HAVE to use marble or natural stone – you can use glass or ceramic materials if you prefer.
2.00 Start making mosaics.
Day 2:
10.00 – 11.00 Martin will demonstrate indirect techniques so that you can cast up your mosaic as a paving slab if you wish.
Continue working on your mosaics.
Days 3-4:
Continue working on your mosaics.
Day 5:
Mosaic Tour of London

Day 6:
Make mould around your mosaic. Mix and pour quick drying cement. Leave overnight.
Day 7:
Crack open your mosaic slab. Martin will demonstrate grouting techniques. Clean and grout your mosaic.
